Alexandra Gharghoury graduated from the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland in May, where she earned her bachelor's in broadcast journalism. She is a member of the Association of Women in Sports Media.

Although originally from New Jersey,Alex currently working as a recruiting assistant at a law firm in Baltimore, where she continues to root for her New York Rangers.Her love of ice hockey, and education in broadcasting drew here to this project, in an effort to learn and share the history of hockey coverage in North America.

Ben Barr graduated from the University of Maryland in the winter of 2013 where he was named student speaker at Merrill College’s graduation.

At Maryland, he spent much of his time with WUMC Sports where he served as co-sports director and external affairs direction. He also covered Maryland sports for TerpsTV and interned in and around Washington D.C. and Philadelphia at WTOP, 106.7 The Fan, NBC4 and Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia.

Cate Kinlein is a recent graduate of the University of Maryland, where she graduated with a duel degree in Journalism and Russian Studies. An Annapolis, Md. native and a Washington Capitals fan, Cate’s life-long love of hockey inspired her to begin studying the Russian Language in college.

In addition to writing to the Povich Center, she also hosted a hockey talk show on Maryland’s WMUC-Sports radio station, and worked in the Intramural Sports Office. She also studied abroad three times throughout college, and was able to intern with SKA of the Kontinental Hockey League in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Danielle Ohl is a sophomore journalism major at the University of Maryland. She is from Center Valley, Pennsylvania and is a self-proclaimed hockey fanatic.

After attending Allentown Central Catholic High School, she was accepted to and enrolled in the Philip Merrill College of Journalism where she currently studies multi-platform journalism. She is a staff writer for the Diversions section of the Diamondback, U-Md.’s student run newspaper, and covers the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center as well as student life. As a freshman, Ohl began covering the University of Maryland’s D2 Men’s Ice Hockey team and regularly produces game previews, reviews, and player profiles for their website.

In her spare time, she blogs for, an outlet that covers off-beat news regarding the Washington Capitals ice hockey team. She hopes to one day work as a beat reporter covering the Philadelphia Flyers for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
