  • Dan Jenkins, the sports writing great and best-selling author whose career covered Ben Hogan to Tiger Woods, began with Western Union and ended with Twitter, has died. He was 89.
  • Intentional or not, ESPN looks petty for editing Bill Simmons out of his interview with Adam Silver, writes Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina.
  • The Athletic shares the story behind Padres prospect Logan Allen’s unique motivation, his unlikely friendship with a childhood idol, and the bet they made one night inside a steakhouse.
  • A North Carolina congressman will introduce a bill next week to that would allow NCAA student-athletes to profit from the use of their name, likeness and image,  The News & Observer reports.
  • Major league teams this season must notify the commissioner’s office of their starting lineups before they are announced at stadiums. The decision Thursday comes in response to the Supreme Court ruling that has led to more widespread legal gambling, the Chicago Sun Times reports.
