The Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism will host a panel on the future of newspapers and their sports departments at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, in Knight Hall’s Eaton Theater on the University of Maryland campus.

With negative stories documenting the decline of the newspaper business, the Povich Center has assembled a panel of experts to discuss the future of the industry.

“We’re training potentially exceptional sports journalists in the hope they industry will provide opportunities for them to flourish,” said George Solomon, the director of the Povich Center and moderator of the panel. “Recent events in the industry are causing concern to those of us worried about the future of the newspaper business.”

The panel, which is free and open to the public, will be comprised of Sam Davis, Managing Editor of The Baltimore Sun;  Adrianne Flynn, Director of Internships and Career Development at Merrill College; Tim Rosenstiel, Founder of the Project for Excellence in Journalism; Gene Policinski,  Chief Operating Officer of the Freedom Forum; and Matt Vita, Sports Editor of The Washington Post.
